This was a project done in an interdisciplinary team consisting of product design, graphic design, and ceramic students. We were tasked with creating a campaign for a social issue of our choice. I was team leader and brought up the the issue of human trafficking. We wanted to make sure our campaign didn't just bring awareness to this issue, but also provided people with tools and resources to do something about it. Shout out to Lori and Lottie who did the graphics, Yizhu for the container design, and Nina for making the balloons pins!
"Recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of persons by improper means for an improper purpose"
Campaign poster with real images of missing people from Interpol. We wanted to show the diversity of people affected.
The title of this campaign is in honor of the 39 Vietnamese victims that died in the 2019 Lorry incident in the U.K. We named it after that incident because it happened around the same time that we were doing this project. It was a popular story for a few days and then the next big story came around and everyone forgot about it and its victims. With this project we wanted to bring attention to human trafficking and that it happens more often than we think as well as educate people about what they can do if they suspect someone is being trafficked.
We created cards and pins that people would buy at transportation hubs such as train stations or airports. These places have the best chance of intercepting someone being trafficked. We went out to the King's Cross Station in London and passed out some of the cards. The balloon pin and balloon imagery are a sign of hope for the victims. On the back of the cards is a list of steps you can take if you feel like you are seeing someone potentially get trafficked. All the proceeds go towards legal help for survivors of human trafficking, which is the most effective way of helping survivors.
